History
Owe is first mentioned in 1280, 1332 is the local name Aewe, resulting Au 1395 and until 1820 was Postau.
The first detectable owner of Au with associated rights of the lower courts were the arithmetic Linger. Following the sale of Hofmark Au at Georgen congestion roof of the place 1401/1402 came into the possession of the Staudacher. Until around 1490 the Staudacher were those of the village government.
On the Staudacher followed by succession one after the Egloffstein, Murcher, cowl Auer, Ebleben and plow. According to a deed dated 24 April 1559 by Martin Gumppenberg feudal lord of Hofmark Au and Unholzing. After his death in 1561, the two sons of his late brother received the Hofmark Au and Unholzing.
Benigna, later heir, sold 1568 Hofmark Au Hans coach, a relative of the Gumppenberger. 1592 sold Hans Ludwig coach Hofmark Au Adam cousin of the Gilgen. His daughter and heiress Anna Maria married in 1602 with Ferdinand Freiherr von Törring and Seefeldt. After the Thirty Years' War came through the marriage of the heiress of Mechtildis Törring Au in the rule of the Counts of Haunsperg.
Leopold Count von Arco married name in 1700 to the heiress of all Haunsperg'schen goods Countess Maria Febronia of Haunsperg, thereby Hofmark Au came into the possession of the Counts of Arco.
In the period around 1770 Carriolposten for mail, Express Mail and private parking Weighing was opened in Au. The postal carriages on the line Landshut - Straubing made in Au Rast and changed in the post- stall horse. The parish Postau was formerly a benefice of the parish moss Thann.
Incorporations
On April 1, 1971, the formerly independent communities Grießbach and Unholzing were incorporated. On May 1, 1978 was followed by large parts of the disbanded community Oberköllnbach with the incorporated there on October 1, 1971 Moss Thann.

Coat of arms
The guided since 1957 coat of arms is divided silver and blue. Above is under a continuous, crenellated top black bar, a black rafters visible below a golden post horn.
The golden post horn in the lower half speaks for the name Postau and reminds us of the historical importance of the place as a post office. The image in the upper half of the shield corresponds to the coat of arms of the family of congestion roof that earned seat and Hofmarksgericht Au in the 15th century and practiced there until 1490 the village rule.
