Location

Schalkham lies on the great Vils in the eastern district of Landshut.

Johannesbrunn and violinist husband belong to the district Johannesbrunn; the remaining 38 parts of municipalities belonging to the district Schalkham. To Johannesbrunn also includes the south adjoining residential and commercial area fur garden which does not form part of their own community. Although Johannesbrunn is a district, it was never an independent municipality. Hochreit and Vorrach were resolved in 1972 by the municipality Hölsbrunn ( Gangkofen ) incorporated and also slammed the district Schalkham.

History

Schalkham was originally a royal estate of the Carolingians. Although the surrounding places such as liver churches, Johannesbrunn and Untertinsbach ascended to power seats over the centuries and Schalkham surpassed in population soon far, so still remained the historic Name decisive: in the Middle Ages as chairman shaft, then as a tax district and the municipality of 1818 as a community name. In the 1972 local government reorganization Schalkham formed an administrative community and school association with the neighboring community Gerzen.

In the hamlet of Johannesbrunn had over 100 years of the Brothers of Mercy, 1970 acquired the Free State of Bavaria to the monastery complex and used it until 1996 as a home for asylum seekers. Since 2000 is the former monastery complex owned by the municipality Schalkham.

Policy

Eight months after the war, found on 27 January 1946, the first municipal elections ( local elections ) in the municipalities belonging to Bavaria instead. During the months of April and May 1946 was followed by yet the first elections of the mayor, district administrators and district councils. 2006, the 60th anniversary was celebrated.

Parish council

The council consists of 8 people. After the local elections in 2014 (compared to local elections 2008 ) are among eight (eight) men and no women. The election resulted in the following distribution of seats in the local council:

  • CDU 3 ( 3) seats,
  • Impartial electoral group three (3 ) seats and
  • CSU two (2 ) seats.

In the municipal elections were eligible to vote 674 (660 ) citizens. 490 (506 ) of them participated as voters, representing a turnout of 72.7 ( 76.7 ) percent. 485 ( 498 ) valid and 5 ( 8) invalid votes were cast.

Mayor

Currently Lorenz Fuchs ( CDU) mayor. He was re-elected in the municipal elections of 2008 and 2014.

Coat of arms

The coat of arms description reads: Under a silver shaft main shield, in three vertical red diamonds in blue with a silver Romanesque baptismal font.

The official justification for the run since 1983 coat of arms reads: " The silver shaft main shield symbolizes the situation of local Vils and shaped by the Vils landscape. The three red diamonds are the arms of the rich since the High Middle Ages in the room at the Vils wealthy and 1521 extinct local noble family of the liver Kircher taken, who called themselves after their headquarters liver churches and were of great historical importance for the municipality of Schalkham. The Romanesque font refers to the part of congregation Johannesbrunn and the patronal feast of St. John testified early Middle Ages Baptistry. Economy and infrastructure

Schalkham is a municipality with a predominantly rural character, there is no industry and only a few small-scale family farms. Main industry is agriculture.
