Princess Pauline of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach

Pauline Ida Marie Henriette Olga Catharina of Saxe -Weimar- Eisenach ( born July 25, 1852 in Stuttgart, † May 17 1904 in places ) was Princess of Saxe -Weimar- Eisenach Duchess of Saxony and by marriage Hereditary Grand Duchess of Saxe -Weimar- Eisenach.

Life

Pauline was the eldest child of Prince Hermann of Saxe -Weimar- Eisenach ( 1825-1901 ). This was justified by his marriage with Auguste (1826-1898), youngest daughter of King William I of Württemberg and his entry into the Royal Wuerttemberg Army, called Württemberg branch of the House of Saxe-Weimar -Eisenach.

Pauline married on August 26, 1873 in Friedrichshafen, Hereditary Grand Duke Karl August of Saxe -Weimar- Eisenach ( 1844-1894 ), her cousin 2nd degree. The wedding date was postponed; originally was scheduled to take place in Weimar occasion of the wedding the premiere of the opera Aida outside Italy.

Pauline's husband died before his father, which is why Pauline's older son in 1901 succeeded as Grand Duke of Saxe -Weimar- Eisenach. Under their patronage was opened in 1901 with the Ramsla " Paulinenstift " one of the oldest nurseries in the area. As the last member of the House of Saxe -Weimar Pauline lived until her death Belvedere in Weimar. She was buried in the royal crypt Weimar.

According to her the Pauline Tower is named, which is considered a landmark of the city of Bad Berka. Five songs from the " Trumpeter of Säckingen ", op 45 of Joseph Victor von Scheffel are dedicated to Pauline.

From their marriage Pauline had two sons:

  • Wilhelm Ernst (1876-1923), Grand Duke of Saxe -Weimar -Eisenach
  • Bernhard Heinrich (1878-1900), Prince of Saxe- Weimar -Eisenach
