On the military part of the airport, which was named after the local village of Slatina, a larger aircraft barracks was built in the 1960s. This cavern was the second major base for the Yugoslav Air Force ( RV i PVO ), and has hosted the 83rd LAP ( Fighter Regiment ) with the two fighter squadrons ( 123 and 124 LAE) with a total of 24 combat aircraft MiG -21bis " Fishbed ".

After the cessation of hostilities and the beginning of control of Kosovo by KFOR, the airport made headlines when Russian paratroopers without consulting with Western countries with their foray to Pristina on 12 June 1999 occupied the airport.

Today, KFOR has the caverns and this end of 2010 the Kosovo Police is passed.
