Prosper Grech

Prosper Grech, OSA Cardinal, COM ( born December 24, 1925 in Vittoriosa, Malta) is a Roman Catholic religious cleric and Christian theologian and Titular Archbishop of San Leone.

Life

When Stanley Grech born, he entered the Augustinian Order in 1943 and laid on October 8, 1944 from his profession. On March 25, 1950 he was ordained priest. Prosper Grech belongs to the Maltese Province of the Order of the Augustinian Order. He is a longstanding member of the Collegio Santa Monica in Rome.

He is an emeritus professor of Sacred Scripture at various Roman universities, especially the Pontifical Biblical Institute and at the Pontifical Lateran University and the Pontifical Gregorian University. He is the co-founder and first president of the Institute of Patristics at the Pontifical Patristic Institute Augustinianum. He has also worked with numerous offices of the Roman Curia. He is a consultant to the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith and a member of the Pontifical Patristic Institute Augustinianum and the Pontifical Biblical Commission.

After he was appointed on 21 January 2012 as Titular Archbishop per hac vice of San Leone to him by Archbishop Giuseppe Curia Versaldi in the Co-Cathedral of St. John on February 8, episcopal ordination was donated in Valletta this year; Paul Cremona OP were co-consecrators, Archbishop of Malta, and Mario Grech, Bishop of Gozo. His motto In te Domine speravi ( " In Thee, Lord, I have hoped " ) comes from the Te Deum or the Book of Psalms (Ps 31.2 EU).

In solemn consistory of February 18, 2012 it took Benedict XVI. as cardinal deacon with the title Diakonia Santa Maria Goretti in the College of Cardinals. Prosper Grech is the first Maltese Cardinal since Fabrizio Sceberras Testaferrata. On 21 April 2012, the seizure of his titles was diakonia.

At the beginning of the Conclave 2013 held Cardinal Prosper Grech in the Sistine Chapel, the intended viewing for elected cardinals.
