Radio Televizioni Shqiptar

Radio Televizioni Shqiptar ( RTSH ) is the public broadcaster of Albania. It was founded in 1938 and has its headquarters in Tirana.

RTSH operates a television program ( TVSH ) and the two national radio station Radio 1 and Radio Tirana Tirana Tirana 2 Radio 3 is the international broadcaster. It produces programs in Albanian and seven other languages ​​for short and medium wave. In addition, there are four local radio stations.

History

The Albanian-language station was established in 1938 with Italian support. A television program was first broadcast in 1960.

In communist Albania, the program was highly controlled. A long time it was the only station that was available to Albania in the local language. The propaganda character held for almost 50 years.

Even after the end of the communist regime, the government still mixed into the program. The focus of the transmitter was music and culture, news was still biased.

Meanwhile RTSH is a public- broadcasting company that has to compete with many private broadcasters. Since 1993, the program is also broadcast via satellite.

Televizioni Shqiptar ( TVSH )

The national television TVSH sends its program since 1960. With the collapse of the communist regime in Albania 1990/91 private stations were established, which are far more successful than TVSH today. The broadcaster is accused of biased coverage especially in the news.

Cooperations

RTSH is a member of the European Broadcasting Union, which designed numerous projects in Europe since 1999. Among the best known of the Euro Vision Song Contest, in which Albania participates since 2004. The Albanian preliminary decision for this singing competition is held annually at Festivali i Këngës like (see: Albania at the Euro Vision Song Contest).
