Radoslav Velikov

Radoslaw Marinow Welikow (also Radoslav Velikov written Marinov, Bulgarian Радослав Маринов Великов; born September 2, 1983 in Kutsina, Veliko Tarnovo Province) is a Bulgarian wrestler. He was 2006 World Champion in free style bantamweight

Career

Radoslaw Welikow began in 1996 as a teenager with the rings. He focuses on the free style. Since 1999 he has been the Bulgarian national team of wrestlers at youth level and since 2004 also the seniors in the area. He is a member of Levski Sofia and is or has been trained by Ivan Tsonow and Simeon Schterew. At a size of 1.59 meters, it usually weighs about 60 kg. But part of the international championships he trains constantly in the bantamweight, which is the weight class up to 55 kg body weight. He is also well known in German Ringer circles, because for several years he is struggling in the German Bundesliga for the first Luckenwalder SC.

In 1999 he participated for the first time at an international championship, the European Junior Championship ( Cadets = age group up to 16 years ) participated. He finished it in Lodz in the weight class up to 42 kg of body weight to 14th place. Even with his other starts at international championships at junior level he was able to win a medal. His best results were a fifth place at the Junior European Championships 2000 in Bratislava and a 6th place finish at the Junior World Championship in Tashkent.

In 2004 he qualified for the Bulgarian team for the Olympic Games in Athens. In a Qualifying Tournament for these games in Sofia, he finished it Bantamweight the 4th Place. This place was enough for the right to start at the Olympic Games in Athens. There he came bantamweight but only to a victory over Shaun Williams from South Africa. His second fight he lost to the Chinese Li Zhengyu, so he resigned and came to 9th place.

2005 succeeded Radoslaw Welikow both at the European Championships in Varna, as well as at the World Championships in Budapest bantamweight each to occupy the second place. He celebrated it, inter alia, Victories over such renowned wrestler as Bessarion Gotschaschwili from Georgia, Ghenadi Tulbea, Moldova ( in the World Cup ) and Namig Abdullayev from Azerbaijan. The finals he lost to Genadi Tulbea ( at the European Championships ) and against Dilshod Mansurov from Uzbekistan ( in the World Cup ).

In 2006, he was only at the World Championships in Guangzhou at the start. With victories over Qiu Yi, China, O Song Nam, North Korea, Atscham Achilow, Uzbekistan, Samuel Henson, United States and Besik Kuduchow, Russia, succeeded him while world champion bantamweight to be.

In 2007, he was not as successful, but won at the European Championships in Sofia bantamweight after all, still an EM bronze medal. He lost it in his first fight against Besik Kuduchow, so the revenge for losing to him at the World Cup in 2006 succeeded. In the Olympic year 2008, he missed by a 9th place at the European Championships in Tampere, where he retired after losing to Mihran Jaburjan, Armenia, after the second battle, the Olympic qualifiers. This he achieved by then, however, the first place at an Olympic qualifying tournament in which he, South Korea and Namig Sewdimow won ahead of Kim Hyo -sub. Even in the years 2009 and 2010 Radoslaw Welikow won at the European Championships medals. Much more successful he was at the World Championships in Istanbul, as he fought his way there with wins over Andres Quispe Fajardo, Chile, Wlasislaw Andreyev, Belarus, Hassan Rahimi, Iran, Vladimir Chintschegaschwili, Georgia and Nicholas Simmons, USA, reached the final before, in which, however, he lost against Viktor Lebedev from Russia.

2012 won Radoslaw Welikow at the European Championships in Belgrade behind Jamal Otarsultanow from Russia and Bessarion Gotschaschwili from Georgen a further medal. But such he missed then almost at the Olympic Games in London. There he came to a victory over Nikolai Nojew, Tajikistan, then lost to Wladimir Chintschegaschwili, triumphed over Ibrahim Farag Abdelhaldim Mohamed from Egypt and Amit Kumar from India, but lost the decisive battle for the bronze medal against Shinichi Yumoto from Japan.
