Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna

The Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna is the highest Indian national award for athletes. The award is named after the Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and by the Ministry of Youth and Sport (Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports) awarded. It consists of a medal, a certificate and a cash prize of 500,000 rupees. The award will be presented by the Indian President.

The prize is awarded since 1992, honors the most outstanding achievement of an Indian or an Indian team on the field of sports ( disciplines that will be played at the Olympic Games, Asian Games, the Commonwealth Games, as well as billiards, snooker and chess ) in the period from April of the previous year until March of the year award. The winners will be chosen by a selection committee appointed by the Ministry.

The Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna stands in the ranking before the annual award for the best performance of certain disciplines Arjuna award and can be awarded to an athlete only once.
