Sushil Kumar (wrestler)

Sushil Kumar Solanki ( born May 25, 1983 in Najafgarh in New Delhi) is an Indian wrestler. He was world champion in 2010 and won at the 2008 Olympic Games bronze medal and 2012 silver medal each in free style at lightweight.

Career

Sushil Kumar, who comes from a humble background, his father Diwan Singh Solanki is a bus driver, began 10 years ago with the rings. He was Instructed to do so by his father and by his Cossan Sundrap, who were both also wrestlers. From the age of 14 he trained in a school wrestlers in Chhatrasal Stadium in New Delhi.

During his career he has been, or is trained by Yashvir, Ramphal, Jagminder Singh, Ravinder man, Satpal Padamshree and Gyan Singh. He is an employee of the Indian state railways. Sushil Kumar focuses on the free style, only at the Commonwealth Championships in 2005, he started in the Greco- Roman style. At a size of 1.68 meters, it started as an adult first featherweight ( up to 60 kg body weight), and since 2005 he is struggling at lightweight (up to 66 kg body weight).

Sushil Kumar was already extremely successful as a junior. It was founded in 1998 in Manchester and 1999 in Łódź each junior world champion in the age group of cadets ( under 16 years ) in weight classes to 45 kg or 50 kg body weight. At the Junior World Championship 2001 in Tashkent he came bantamweight but only to 12th place because he suffered a defeat by Reza Khalilov from Azerbaijan in his first fight.

In the senior he won in 2003 at the Commonwealth Championships in London in free style the featherweight title. In the same year he arrived at the Asian Championship in New Delhi featherweight to 3rd place. In 2003, he also started the first time at the Senior World Championships, which took place in New York. In featherweight he showed this excellent performance and defeated Alexander Karnizki, Belarus, Aram Margaryan, Armenia, Kamal Ustarchanow, Russia and David Pogosjan from Georgia four strong wrestler from successor states of the Soviet Union. But against Arif Abdullayev from Azerbaijan he was defeated in the semifinals and had to concede defeat even the South Koreans Song Jae- myung almost on points in the battle for the World Cup bronze medal, so that he landed on the thankless fourth place.

In 2004 we launched Sushil Kumar at the Olympic Games in Athens. He was defeated in his first fight against Yandro Miguel Quintana Ribalta of Cuba on points and reached, in accordance with the former Regulations, with a win over Ivan Welkow Djorew from Bulgaria only the 14th place.

Sushil Kumar in 2005 was in free style again titlist at the Commonwealth Championships in Stellenbosch / South Africa and finished third in Greco-Roman wrestling the third place. He started for the first time at lightweight. Disappointing went for him the 2005 Asian Championships in Wuhan, because he came there in lightweight only the 8th Place. At the World Championship 2005, he was not at the start.

In the Asian Games 2006 in Doha, he suffered from Takafumi Kojima from Japan a defeat, but fought his way to a remarkable victory over Leonid Spiridonov of Kazakhstan still a bronze medal. At the World Championships this year in Guangzhou, he reached after a victory over the Vietnamese Nguyen Doan Dung and a defeat against Elmar Asgarow from Azerbaijan only the 13th Place.

In the Asia Cup 2007 in Bishkek / Kyrgyzstan battled Sushil Kumar behind Hassan Tahmasi from Iran the vice championship, but came at the 2007 World Championships in Baku after three wins again not in a medal because he faced in the 4th round Andriy Stadnik from Ukraine defeated. He thus placed himself on the 7th Place.

In 2008 he won at the Asian Championship in South Korea Jeju to lightweight a bronze medal. At the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, he competed in an excellent shape. Although he was defeated in his first fight back against Andrei Stadnik. He takes back then but with wins over Doug Schwab from the United States, Albert Batirow from Belarus and Leonid Spiridonov still a bronze medal. He won so after 56 years again a medal at the Ringer competitions at the Olympic Games for India. 1952 Khashaba Jadhav had won a bronze medal in Helsinki. Sushil Kumar was awarded the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna one for 2008.

At the 2009 World Championships in Herning / Denmark Sushil Kumar narrowly missed a medal. After a semi-final defeat against Rasul Djukajew from Russia he was defeated in the battle for the bronze medal against Tatsuhiro Yonemitsu of Japan and got away with it on the 5th Place.

At the peak of his career then the World Championship in 2010 in Moscow, after he had become Asian champion in the seniors at lightweight before the South Koreans Kim Dae -sung, Ichtijor Nawrusow, Uzbekistan and Unurbat Purevjav, Mongolia ago in New Delhi for the first time. In Moscow, Sushil Kumar Akriditis defeated Anastasios of Greece, Martin Daum from Germany, Bujanjav Batzorig from Mongolia, Jabrail Hasanow from Azerbaijan and in the final battle in front of a fanatical audience the Russians Alan Gogajew and thus became world champion. He is the first Indian who won a world title in the senior wrestlers.

In 2011, he was injured for a long, but started, hardly restored, although at the World Championship in Istanbul. He came there, but only to a victory over Joseph Lopez from Guatemala and retired after a defeat from the next fight against Andrei Stadnik from Ukraine. He only finished in the 14th place. Come back in the form he missed in March 2012 with a 3rd place at a tournament in Astana just to qualify for the London Olympics. This he managed finally in April 2012 at a tournament in China's Taiyuan. He won there before Otar Tuschischwili from Georgia and Andrei Kwiatkowski from Ukraine. At the Olympic Games itself, he came in his first fight to a tight point victory ( 2-1 rounds, 2-2 points ) over the Olympic champion from 2008 Ramazan Sahin from Turkey. After that, he still defeated Ichtiyor Nawrusow from Uzbekistan and in a tough battle Aqschürek Tanatarow from Kazakhstan. He stood thus in the final, where he faced Tatsuhiro Yonemitsu of Japan, however, was no chance (0-2 rounds, 1:4 points). However, the silver medal was a great success for him.

At the opening ceremony of the 2012 Summer Olympics in London was Sushil Kumar standard-bearer of the Indian delegation.
