Ranbaxy Laboratories Limited is an Indian company, which was founded in 1961 and was acquired in 2008 to 63.92 percent by the Japanese pharmaceutical company Daiichi Sankyo. The company is listed on the financial index BSE Sensex.

Ranbaxy Laboratories is India's largest drug maker. Its head office is in Gurgaon in the Indian state of Haryana. Ranbaxy exported to 125 countries and maintains offices in 46 countries and manufacturing facilities in seven countries. It is among the ten largest generic drug manufacturers in the world. In Germany, Ranbaxy is represented with its 100 % owned subsidiary Basics in Leverkusen.

Ranbaxy was converted into a corporation in 1973.

Ranbaxy expanded in 1998 to the U.S. market, the world's largest market for pharmaceutical products, today the main market for Ranbaxy, where it achieved in 2005 28 % of its sales.

The other sales this year 2005 absolute total 1,178 billion achieved in Europe: 17% and overall in Brazil, Russia, India and China: 29%.

Most of the products of Ranbaxy are licensed products of foreign pharmaceutical companies, but a significant portion also consists of agents whose patents have expired.
