Región Autónoma del Atlántico Sur

The Región Autónoma del Atlántico Sur ( RAAS short ) is one of two autonomous regions in Nicaragua. They are made as an administrative unit in addition to the 15 departments in Nicaragua. The two autonomous regions created by a new constitution in 1987 and the subsequent division of the department of Zelaya following.

The region's capital is Bluefields. The area is 27,407 km ² with a population of approximately 393,000 inhabitants ( 2006 calculation ), which corresponds to a population density of about 14 inhabitants / km ².

The Región Autónoma del Atlántico Sur is in turn divided into twelve Municipalities:
