Reißeck

Reißeck is a municipality with 2247 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the district of Spittal an der Drau in Carinthia. The name derives from the congregation formed in 1973 with the main town Kolbnitz is the highest elevation in the municipality, the Reißeck ( 2965 m).

Geography

Geographical location

The municipality is located in the lower Moelltal and is bounded by the Reisseck the north and the Kreuzeckgruppe in the south. Dominant geographical features are the Möll the Tauern railway, the Moelltal road, Daniel Berg and the reservoir Rottau.

Neighboring communities

Direct achievable neighboring municipalities in Moelltal are Obervellach and Mühldorf. The other municipalities border only in the mountains to the community Reißeck.

History

In 1850, the first time the local church Kolbnitz had been constituted, which was already 15 years later connected to Obervellach, but became independent again after a further eleven years in 1876. From the original municipality of the cadastral Mühldorf has split off into a separate municipality in 1913.

In the course of municipal reform in 1973 in Carinthia the community Reißeck was established from the three communities Kolbnitz, Mühldorf and Penk. In 1992, the municipality Mühldorf to a referendum regained their independence. Since then, there is 139.83 km ² in area with tenth largest community of Carinthia in its current size.

Population

According to Statistics Austria, the parish had 2011 2.331 inhabitants in the year. The number of community residents since 1869 increased by 31%. This increase is below the average for the population development of the state of Carinthia ( 77%).

According to the 2001 census, 94.6 % of residents have Austrian citizenship, the largest share of the foreign population provide German (1.5%) and Croatian (1.0%) nationals.

The vast majority of the municipality 's population is Roman Catholic ( 82.1 %). The next largest religious community (Protestant ) amounts to a population share of 7.2 %. Community citizens without religious confession come to 6.9%.

Sacred buildings

  • Filial church of St. George on the Daniel Berg
  • The parish church of St. James in Kolbnitz, first mentioned in 1124, is a late Gothic, later redesigned baroque church with zweischiffigem nave and a powerful north tower with spire helmet.
  • Chapel of St Mary on Sandbichl in Oberkolbnitz is a small, single-aisled timber, which was built in 1716.
  • The parish church of St. Nicholas at the southern end of Penk was first mentioned in 1233.
  • The parish church of Holy Trinity in Teuchl is a small baroque church hall. It was built in 1685 and consecrated in 1758.
  • The Rupbauerkapelle is a small, built in 1847, St. Mary's Chapel in Napplach.

Parish council

The council has 19 members Reißeck and is calculated as follows for the local council elections in 2009 together:

Directly elected mayor since the runoff from the June 3, 2012 Kurt Felticetti ( SPÖ). Previously, the incumbent since 1997 Gerd Pichler ( FLR) had resigned for health reasons.

Coat of arms

The right to a coat of arms of the former municipality Kolbnitz was awarded on 18 January 1968. With the founding of the church Reißeck in 1973 the coat of arms was transferred to this.

The crest is designed as a split shield and shows in the front half on a green background a golden Hercules with lion's skin and club, standing on the silver stylized Daniel Berg. It symbolizes a past glorious epoch in which a Roman temple to have stood on the top of Mount Daniel. At the gap in the rear half of the shield of the coat of arms can be seen half a Pelton wheel. It was chosen as a symbol of the currently prevailing electricity industry (Malta power plants and power plant group Reißeck top corner ).

The flag of the municipality is red -yellow-green with integrated crest.
