Rethymno Aegean B.C.

A.G.O. Rethymnou (Greek: Αθλητικός Γυμναστικός Όμιλος Ρεθύμνου, German: Athletic Sports Club Rethymnou in short, ΑΓOΡ, AGOR ) is a Greek basketball team, which is native to Crete. AGOR plays in the Greek A1 Ethniki League and plays its home games in Rethymno.

History

Founded as a grassroots organization in 1965 by Ioannis Antonios Chalkidakis and Vitakis, has AGOR only since 1986 on a basketball department. Until 1999 the club was the only one present in the lower leagues and played no significant role in the Greek basketball. In 1999 the club was relegated in the Gamma Ethniki ( ΓΕθνική ) on - which corresponds to the fourth division - and finished second in the following seasons always have a place in the top flight, but missed each time the climb. 2003 undertook the club Stergios Koufos as their new coach and with this also turned out for the first time a sporting success. With only two defeats season AGOR managed the championship and promotion to the Bita Ethniki ( ΒΕθνική ) which could also be completed in the following year with the first course and the club promotion to the second highest Greek League (A 2) enabled.
