Geography

Save mountain is 807 m at the foot of Gruenten (1738 m). On the northern side of this mountain, the elongated 1115 meter-high Rottachberg is upstream. Between them is a large part of its territory. The upper valley is drained to the northeast from the rim Eggerbach and to the southwest by the Agatha Zellerbach and from Rossbach.

History

The name of the place is derived from the rock conglomerate rock. This rock is colored red by iron oxide. Einstein called this place also Rötenberg (of Red Mountain ).

Rescue Mountain Rescue Mountain was the seat of power. Since the beginning of the 12th century until the death of Henry of Rettenberg to 1350, the Lords of Mountain Rescue were one of the most influential families in the Upper Allgäu. The name originally stood for two mountain rescue about five kilometers distant places. To distinguish between the name of the modern village Rettenberg was supplemented with the parish to Stephen's Mountain Rescue and refers to the other village with mountain rescue in front of the castle. From the name Vorderburg, which is the official designation since 1905 developed in the 19th century.

With the ruins of the castle Finkelnburg and castle stables at Emmereis there are other former castles in the municipality.

Save mountain belonged to the Bishopric of Augsburg. Since Reichsdeputationshauptschluss and the secularisation of 1803 the place belonged to Bavaria.

Incorporations

On January 1, 1976, a small part of the dissolved municipality Petersthal was incorporated with at that time about 25 residents. Untermaiselstein, which received this name on February 26, 1927 (previously Untermaiselstein ), and Vorderburg were added on 1 May 1978.
