Rhaetian Railway Ge 2/4

The Ge 2/4 is a lightweight electric locomotive class of the Rhaetian Railway (RhB).

History

1913 procured the RhB seven copies with the numbers 201 through 207 for the newly built and electrified from the start line in the Engadine. The 8.7 m long Stangenloks reached 45 km / h and possessed a power of 228 kW. They weighed 36.7 tonnes. The mechanical part was supplied by SLM, while BBC produced the electrical components. To drive Repulsion were used, which are characterized by a high torque and shock- free start-up.

Between 1943 and 1946 three machines were rebuilt in shunting locomotives with central cab. Popularly they received as well as the name ' Iron '. They were given the numbers Ge 2/4 211 to 213, the service weight was reduced to 33.0 t and raised the top speed to 55 km / h. The last specimen (Ge 2/4 212) has now been restored to its original state in the 1940s and given to a private company that wants to set the locomotive before a planned model railway in Fribourg.

1945 and 1946 two more locomotives were rebuilt: The redrawn in Ge 2/4 221 and 222 machines were indeed not outwardly changed, but her weight was reduced to only 30.0 t, increases power to 450 kW and top speed also on 55 km / h fixed. Soon they made biasing services on the Albula Railway. Has been preserved until today, the Ge 2/4 222; it is used as museum locomotives RhB and is native to the country Quart.

The two non- converted locomotives with the numbers 205 and 207 are still preserved. Lok 205 stood as a monument in front of the Zurich University in Winterthur by November 2007. Originally the locomotive should be part of the 205 planned path Albula museum. The club currently investigated in 1889 for another opportunity to be able to show weatherproof public Lok after currently taking place revision. Locomotive 207, which remained the only series in its original state is exhibited in the Museum of Transport in Lucerne.
