Ribera Alta/Erriberagoitia

Ribera Alta (Basque Erriberagoitia ) is a municipality ( municipio ) with 758 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013) in the Spanish province of Álava in the Basque Autonomous Region. To the jobs created in the 1970s and 1980s, community association includes the villages Antezana de la Ribera, Anúcita, Arbígano, Arreo, Artaza - Escota, Barrón, Basquiñuelas, Caicedo - Sopeña Herena, Lasierra, Leciñana de la Oca, Morillas, Ormijana, Paúl, Pobes, Subijana - Morillas, Tuyo, Villabezana, Villambrosa, Viloria. The capital and the center is Pobes.

Location

Ribera Alta is located in the west of the province of Álava at an altitude of about 500 to 700 meters above sea level. inst. Bayas The river flows in a north-south direction. The provincial capital, Vitoria-Gasteiz is about 28 km drive away to the east. The nearest large city, Miranda de Ebro is located, about 26 miles south in the province of Burgos.

Demographics

The individual villages of the municipality of Ribera Alta each have about 50 to 150 people.

Economy

The villages and hamlets of the community were and are influenced to a large extent on agriculture; are grown mainly cereals, but also vegetables of all kinds during the summer months, tourism (hiking, Rentals ) plays an important role in the economic life of the community.

History

About the history of the individual villages is virtually nothing is known. The small Romanesque or Gothic churches can, however, close to a correspondingly long colonization of the area.

Attractions

  • The single-nave church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción dates from the 15th century; but it still has a simple Romanesque south portal. The altarpiece Churrigueresque style dates from the 18th century.
  • Each of the districts has a Romanesque church. The Artaza is in the 19th century by a fire heavily damaged but has been faithfully reconstructed.
  • The Casa -Torre de los Barrón y Mendoza is a fortified castle residence with increased lying input from the 15th century.
  • The Gothic church has a Romanesque south portal, which is hidden in a mullioned south porch ( portico ). Furthermore, there is a bell gable ( espanaña ).
