Richmond Palace

Richmond Palace was a royal residence on the Thames, 15 km south-west of the Palace of Westminster. In the time before the House of Tudor predecessor as Sheen Palace was known.

History

In 1299 Edward I moved his court after Sheen (the old name of Richmond upon Thames ), which thus royal residence was first. Richard II was the first English king who Sheen in 1383 made ​​it his main residence.

On December 23, 1497 a fire destroyed the building. King Henry VII had built a new palace and named it after the title of his father, the Earl of Richmond.
