Rocks is the fourth studio album by the American hard rock band Aerosmith. It was released in May 1976 by Columbia Records.

Formation and style

After the great success of the previous album Toys in the Attic Aerosmith Rocks took in early 1976 again with Jack Douglas as producer in New York City on. Overall, the album is less influenced by blues - rock elements and moves more into the hard rock and heavy metal field.

By Last Child, Home Tonight, Rats in the Cellar and Back in the Saddle four songs from the album were released as singles.

Reception

Rocks in the U.S. reached number three on the Billboard 200 charts and was sold in the year of publication over a million copies. In 2001 it gained four times platinum status.

Rocks received mostly positive reviews. The magazine Rolling Stone took the album on the 176th spot on its list of the 500 best albums of all time. The former Guns N ' Roses guitarist Slash, Metallica's singer James Hetfield and former singer and guitarist of Nirvana, Kurt Cobain described the album as a formative musical influence in their youth.
