Rodgers Rop

Rodgers Rop ( born February 16, 1976) is a Kenyan long- distance runner who specializes in road races.

In 2001 he won the CPC Loop Den Haag and was third in the Berlin Half Marathon. In the 25 km from Berlin, he presented 1:13:44 h to set a world record over this distance, of the three years was subject. In the same year he won the Kassel City Run and at the Tilburg Ten Miles and each was third at the Portugal Half Marathon and the New York City Marathon.

He finished second in the 20 van Alphen and fifth at the Lisbon Half Marathon 2002. After that, he was the fourth runner after Bill Rodgers ( 1978 and 1979 ), Alberto Salazar (1982) and Joseph Chebet (1999), to decide in the same year both the Boston Marathon and the New York City Marathon for themselves. Even with the 25 km from Berlin, he won again.

In 2003, he was sixth at the Lisbon Half Marathon, seventh in Boston and second in New York City. The following year saw a victory at the Lisbon Half Marathon a third place at the Portugal Half Marathon and a ninth at the Amsterdam Marathon.

He was fifth at the Lisbon Half Marathon, seventh at the Paris Marathon, fourth at the Rotterdam Half Marathon and sixth at the JoongAng Seoul Marathon 2005.

In the following season he was eighth in the Lisbon Half Marathon, won as early as 2002 when Paderborn Easter Run on the 10 - km route and was the London Marathon sixth. In the fall, he finished then the marathon in New York City to fifth place.

In 2007 he was fourth at the 20 van Alphen and won in a dramatic final with a second ahead of Wilfred Kibet Kigen the Hamburg Marathon. For the world record run of Haile Gebrselassie at the Berlin Marathon in 2007 Rop was one of the pacesetters.

Rodgers Rop belongs to the ethnicity of the Nandi. Like many other Kenyan athletes he is employed by the police.
