Roelof Frankot

Roelof Frankot ( born October 25, 1911 in Meppel, † December 1, 1984 in Raalte, Overijssel) was a Dutch artist.

Life

Frankot learned during his training as a photographer, among others, in 1928 the court photographer Godfrey de Groot in Amsterdam. Since the early 1930s, he devoted himself to painting. Later, he had a close connection with the CoBrA movement; the inspiration of it is evident in his abstract oil paintings with strong colors. From 1942 to 1948 he was married to the painter Stien Eelsingh; during this time were both based in Staphorst.

Occasionally Frankot also wrote poems that were published along with publications about his art. He was regarded by critics as a renovator of Dutch art. Exhibitions of his work there was in Europe, the USA and Latin America. His works are in many private collections, especially in the UK, France and Holland. Especially to Denmark many of his paintings were sold.

Frankot died in 1984 at the age of 73 from cancer.
