Roger Beaufrand

Roger Beaufrand ( born September 25, 1908 in La Garenne- Colombes, † March 14, 2007 in Béziers ) was a French cyclist. His biggest success was the 1928 Olympic gold medal in the sprint. In the same year he also became vice world champion in this discipline behind the Danes Willy Falck Hansen in Budapest.

Beaufrand turned his first laps on the track of the Vélodrome de Vincennes. His first victory in 1925, he learned at a competition for talent scouting. On August 7, 1928, he surprised everyone with not even 20 years ago in Amsterdam, the world's elite with his Olympic victory. In 1936, he took a third place at the French Championships.

After his playing time Beaufrand dealt with the " fine arts "; he painted himself and was for a time head of an art gallery in Paris. In his spare time he played in his last years chess and bridge in his adopted hometown of Beziers.

Since April 2005, he was the oldest surviving gold medalist of the Olympic Games. A few weeks before his death, the appointment was handed over to the Knights of the Legion of Honor by Jean -Claude Killy.
