Michel Rousseau (cyclist)

Michel Rousseau ( born February 5, 1936 in Paris ) is a French former racing driver who was a successful racing cyclist.

Rousseau won the 1956 Sprint Grand Prix of the amateurs in his hometown before he managed the double of Olympic victory and World Championship: At the Olympic Summer Games in Melbourne in 1956 he defeated in the final of the sprint tournament the Italian Guglielmo Pesenti, at the UCI Track Cycling World Championships the Argentinian Jorge Bátiz. Rousseau defended his world title in 1957 and then went on to the pros. In 1958, he became a professional world champion in track sprint in the final he defeated his predecessor as Olympic champion, the Italian Enzo Sacchi. 1959 and 1961 he was runner-up. Rousseau remained active until 1967, still in his final year as a pro, he won his fifth overall French championship in track sprint.
