In August 2004, Bos took part in the Olympic Games in Athens. There he won the silver medal in the sprint behind the Australian Ryan Bayley. He became world champion in 1000 -meter time trial, sprint and keirin in 2006 and again in 2007 Sprint 2005. He is the most successful track cyclists of the Netherlands so far.

Theo Bos is the brother of the Dutch Eisschnellläufers Jan Bos. He lives with the cyclist, Adrie Visser in Wieringerwerf.

At the final stage of the Tour of Turkey 19 April 2009 Theo Bos took the South African cycling colleagues Daryl Impey and himself in the sprint preparation to case. Impey suffered a vertebral fracture, lost several teeth and was wearing deep cut wounds on the face of it. Bos was subsequently disqualified by the UCI because of bad sportsmanship and initially was fined. In July 2009, a month-long ban from August 15 was pronounced against him.

In the UCI Track World Championships 2011 at Apeldoorn, the Netherlands Bos won bronze in the two - team driving, together with Peter Schepenbank. A targeted participation in the 2012 Olympic Games in London failed because he had to undergo surgery in November 2011, which prevented him from participating in the necessary skills competitions.
