Arnaud Tournant

Arnaud Tournant ( born April 5, 1978 in Roubaix ) is a former French cyclist. He is Olympic champion and 14-time world champion in track cycling.

Cycling career

Tournant 1996 Junior European champion in track and sprint in the 1000 -meter time trial. At the Junior World Cup 1996, he finished second in the sprint. Founded in 1997, it belongs to the Équipe Cofidis. In 1997, he won his first world championship title in the senior category and indeed in the team sprint. In 1998 he won the first singles title in the time trial. At the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000, he won the team sprint with Laurent Gané and Florian Rousseau.

2001 Tournant won at the track world championships in Antwerp three gold medals. In the same year he exhibited in La Paz, Bolivia, in 58.875 seconds to set a world record in the 1000 -meter time trial, which still endures today. However, this time was favored by the thin air of La Paz. At the 2004 Olympics won Tournant silver in the time trial and bronze in the team sprint together with Mickaël Bourgain and Laurent Gané.

After the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, where Tournant jointly with Grégory Baugé, Kévin Sireau and Mickael Bourgain won the silver medal in the team sprint, he resigned from active cycling

Tournants coach was former track world champion Gérard Quintyn. Tournant is 1,80 m tall, his competition weight was 88 kg.

Professional

Until the end of 2010 Arnaud Tournant worked as sports director of the web team Cofidis. After that, he was project manager for the construction of a new indoor velodrome in Roubaix, whose chief he should also be following their opening in 2011.
