Rokycany

Rokycany ( German Rokitzan, Rokytzan, older even Rockizan ) is a city in western Bohemia in the Czech Republic western Bohemia with 14,686 inhabitants. The city is located 19 km east of Plzeň.

History

Rokycany emerged in the 12th century on the road from Prague to Pilsen from a village that was in the possession of the Bishop of Prague. 1406 it received city rights, and also flourished due to its location on the Golden Road. After the Hussite Revolution it fell initially to local nobles, then to the King of Bohemia. From 1584 of Rokycany had the status of a free royal city, but lost it again in the Thirty Years' War. 1784, the city was burned down completely and was rebuilt. Since the second half of the 19th century there are steel mills and other industries.

Events

Each year on the last weekend in July, takes place on the sports airfield in Rokycany instead of the Fluff Festival, which focuses on hardcore music and Straight Edge or DIY movement. At the festival in 2008 were about 1500 visitors. There are only offered vegan food and drink.
