The Archdiocese of Birmingham (Latin Archidioecesis Birminghamiensis ) is a diocese of the Roman Catholic church located in Birmingham, UK.

History

The archdiocese has its origins in the already on January 30, 1688 justified from the Vicariate Apostolic of the Vicariate Apostolic of Midland District England. After 1840, the Vicariate Apostolic of Eastern District was separated from him, changed his name to Apostolic Vicariate of Central District. On September 29, 1850 - restoration of the Catholic hierarchy in England - the Diocese of Nottingham was built from parts of the area. At the same time there were also some areas from the establishment of the Diocese of Shrewsbury and was even raised to the Bishopric of Birmingham. As such, it was under the Archdiocese of Westminster, suffragan, but was on October 28, 1911 even with the archbishopric seat of a Metropolitan, the two suffragan dioceses of Clifton and Shrewsbury are assigned.

Today, the area of the Archdiocese comprises the territories of Oxfordshire, Staffordshire, West Midlands, Warwickshire and Worcestershire.
