Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Gitega

The Archdiocese of Gitega (Latin: Archidioecesis Kitegaënsis ) is a location in Burundi Roman Catholic archdiocese headquartered in Gitega.

History

The Archdiocese of Gitega was established on December 12, 1912 by Pope Pius X. territorial concessions from the Apostolic Vicariate Victoria and Unianyembé as Apostolic Vicariate of Kivu. 1921, the Apostolic Vicariate of Kivu was renamed Vicariate Apostolic Urundi and Kivu. The Apostolic Vicariate of Urundi and Kivu was renamed on April 25, 1922 in Apostolic Vicariate of Urundi. On July 14, 1949, the Apostolic Vicariate of Urundi were parts of its territory from establishing the Apostolic Vicariate of Ngozi. The Apostolic Vicariate of Urundi was renamed on July 14, 1949 in Apostolic Vicariate Kitega. On June 11, 1959, the Apostolic Vicariate Kitega were parts of its territory from establishing the Apostolic Vicariate Usumbura.

The Apostolic Vicariate of Kitega was posted on November 10, 1959 by Pope John XXIII. charged with the Apostolic Constitution Cum parvulum to an archbishopric and renamed the Archdiocese of Gitega. On June 6, 1961, the Archdiocese of Gitega were parts of its territory from the foundation of the diocese Bururi. A further transfer of territory took place on 13 April 1973 foundation of the diocese Ruyigi.
