Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Singapore

The Archdiocese of Singapore (Latin: Archidioecesis singaporensis ) is an Archdiocese of the Roman Catholic church located in the city -state of Singapore.

History

Forerunner of today's Archdiocese of Singapore is the Diocese of Malacca was founded on February 4, 1558 with the Bull Pro excellenti praeeminentia by Pius IV, of the diocese of Goa out (lat. Malacensis ). On January 23, 1576 in 1712 the diocese was part of its territory from the foundation of the Diocese of Macao and the Apostolic Prefecture of islands in the Indian Ocean. Using the Breve multa praeclare lifted Gregory XVI. the Diocese of Malacca and transferred to the jurisdiction of the Vicariate Apostolic of Ava and Pegu, Burma. The territory of Malaysia and Singapore in 1840 the Vicariate Apostolic of Siam transferred from which it was removed on 10 September 1841 the Breve University dominici gregis as Apostolic Vicariate Westsiam. By Pope Gregory XVI. was 1841-1888, the name changed to the Vicariate Apostolic of Malacca - Singapore (Latin Malacensis - singaporensis ); by Leo XIII. on August 19, 1888 again renamed to the diocese of Malacca and inclusion as Suffragen the Indian Archdiocese of Pondicherry. Under Pope Pius XII. the diocese was elevated to an archdiocese on September 19, 1953, from 1955 as a separate Archdiocese of Malacca - Singapore. On February 25, 1555 Archdiocese gave parts of its territory to the founding of the dioceses Kuala Lumpur and Penang. Took place on 18 December in 1972 with the bull Spe certa Ducti by Pope Paul VI. a division of the Archdiocese of Singapore and the Malay Diocese of Melaka - Johor.
