Roman Catholic Diocese of Anuradhapura

The diocese of Anuradhapura (Latin: Dioecesis Anuradhapurensis ) is a location in Sri Lanka Roman Catholic diocese based in Anuradhapura. It includes the north central province.

History

The diocese of Anuradhapura was on 19 December 1975 by Pope Paul VI. built with the Apostolic Constitution Iussum Christ of annexations of the dioceses of Jaffna and Trincomalee - Batticaloa as Apostolic Prefecture of Anuradhapura.

On 18 March 1982, the Apostolic Prefecture of Anuradhapura was elevated by Pope John Paul II with the Apostolic Constitution Qui idem to the diocese and the Archdiocese of Colombo is a suffragan.
