Roman Catholic Diocese of Trincomalee

The Diocese of Trincomalee (Latin: Dioecesis Trincomaliensis ) is a location in Sri Lanka Roman Catholic diocese based in Trincomalee.

History

The Diocese of Trincomalee on August 25, 1893 by Pope Leo XIII. built out of territory of the Archdiocese of Colombo and of the Diocese of Jaffna. It was the Archdiocese of Colombo is a suffragan. On 23 October 1967, the diocese was renamed the Diocese of Trincomalee Trincomalee - Batticaloa. The Diocese of Trincomalee - Batticaloa announced on December 19, 1975 from parts of its territory establishing the Apostolic Prefecture of Anuradhapura. On 3 July 2012, the Diocese of Trincomalee and Batticaloa in the diocese was divided.
