Roman Catholic Diocese of Moshi

The Diocese of Moshi (Latin: Dioecesis Moshiensis ) is a location in Tanzania Roman Catholic diocese based in Moshi.

History

The Diocese of Moshi was established on September 13, 1910 by Pope Pius X. territorial concessions from the Apostolic Vicariate of Bagamoyo as Apostolic Vicariate of Kilimanjaro. On January 28, 1935, the Apostolic Vicariate of Kilimanjaro gave parts of its territory establishing the Apostolic Prefecture of Dodoma. Other annexations took place on April 14, 1943 establishing the Apostolic Prefecture of Mbulu and on April 18, 1950 establishing the Apostolic Prefecture of Tanga.

On March 25, 1953, the Apostolic Vicariate of Kilimanjaro was by Pope Pius XII. raised to the bishopric and renamed Diocese of Moshi. The Diocese of Moshi announced on March 1, 1963 from parts of its territory to the founding of the Diocese of Arusha. A further transfer of territory on December 10, 1963 establishing the Apostolic Prefecture seed.

The Diocese of Moshi is the Archdiocese of Arusha is a suffragan.
