Region

Roumbou I ( also: Roumbou ) is a rural municipality in the department of Dakoro in Niger.

Geography

Roumbou I is located in the Sahel. Through the community, the Tarka Valley, which has its origin in the community Tarka runs. The neighboring communities of Roumbou I are Bermo in the north, Bader Goula in the east, the south and Birni LaLLe Azagor in the West. The municipality is divided into 19 administrative villages, eleven traditional villages, seven hamlets and a water source. The main town of the country church is the administrative village Roumbou I ( also: Roumbou, Roumbou - Sakabal or Sakkabal ).

History

The rural community Roumbou I was created in 2002 as part of a nationwide administrative reform a part of the canton Birni LaLLe.

Population

At the 2001 census, the rural municipality had 8834 inhabitants. For the year 2010 11.944 inhabitants were calculated. In Roumbou I, among others, members of the sedentary Tuareg subgroup Ibroubak and the Hausa live.

Policy

In the local elections in July 2004 Tsahirou Boubou ( PNDS - Tarayya ) was elected mayor.

Economy and infrastructure

The municipality is located in a susceptible for food crises transitional area between the zone of Agropastoralismus of the South and the zone of the remote pasture in the North. It often comes to land use conflicts between sedentary farmers and the regularly coming from neighboring areas transhumant pastoralists. In Roumbou - Sakabal is a regionally important weekly market. The other infrastructure in the capital is limited to a French-speaking primary school ( école traditionnal ), a Koranic school, a health center ( center de santé Integré ) and a small drinking water line.
