The N177 was established in 1824 as a French Nationalstrasße between the N175 west of Villers -Bocage and Redon. This route goes back to the route impériale 197. In 1949, by a route change, the N12 the section between Fougères and Rennes. The total length was thus 160.5 km. In 1973 she was graduated.
