Rožmberk nad Vltavou

Rožmberk nad Vltavou ( German Rosenberg, also Rosenberch, Roesenberg, Rosemberg, Rozmberg, Rožumbergk ) is a town in southern Bohemia. It belongs to Okres Český Krumlov.

Geography

Rožmberk nad Vltavou is located northeast of the city Hohenfurt in the valley of the Vltava River, ten kilometers from the Austrian border. The city is surrounded by unspoiled nature and the course of the river Vltava.

History

Rosenberg was founded in the first half of the 13th century on a trade route from Cesky Krumlov to Linz. Its history is closely connected with the same name of Rosenberg, which was responsible for the foundation of the castle Rožmberk. Their owners also appropriated the town of Rosenberg with the same rule. Around 1250 there was already a Jewish community.

In 1982, the city of Freistadt has taken a sponsorship of the displaced persons of the town and parish Rosenberg.

Rosenberg is the main town in which the action takes place Smetana's opera The Devil's Wall. Karel Leger took the landscape as a basis for action in his novel Wild five-petalled rose ( Plana růže pětilistá ).
