Rožmitál na Šumavě

Rožmitál na Šumavě ( German Rosenthal in Šumava ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic. It is located nine kilometers south-west of Kaplice and belongs to Okres Český Krumlov.

Geography

Rožmitál na Šumavě located east of Moldautals in the foothills of the Bohemian Forest in the valley of Rožmitálský creek creek at the mouth of Močeradský. To the east rises the mountain of the resort, the 752 m high Jelínka.

Neighboring towns are Močerady in the north, Michnice, Přibyslav and Bujanov in the east, Hněvanov in the south and in the north- west Cerin

History

Rosental was founded during the colonization of the Šumava foothills and was first mentioned on May 23, 1259 in a certificate issued in Moldautein certificate of the Prague bishop Johann, as he confirmed the Wok von Rosenberg, the monastery Hohenfurth bestowed patronage of the Church of Rosenthal. It was owned by the Rosenbergs who raised it in 1380 to a Mediatstädtchen.

1420 attracted by the Hussites under Chval of Machovice and encamped on the Žižkův Kopec. By 1550, the silver mining began in the pit of St. Andrew.

Until the 20th century there was a brewery in the town.

In the hallways, the deserted villages Skupečne (More village), Třešňovice ( cherry ), Kvasov ( Puritschen ), Hora (formerly Harachy ) and Havlov are ( Hable Reith ).

Attractions

  • The previously mentioned 1259 Church of the Assumption in 1770 and 1909 rebuilt
  • Baroque sculpture with St. John of Nepomuk, Florian and Sebastian on the marketplace
  • Statue of John of Nepomuk in Michnice
  • Ruins of the chapel Mariahilf on the Jelínka, built in 1732-33 on the site of an earlier building of 1650, destroyed after 1970 due to vandalism
