Rumendingen

Rumendingen is a municipality in the administrative district of Emmental in the canton of Bern in Switzerland.

Geography

Rumendingen is located on 526 m above sea level. M., 5,5 km north of the town of Burgdorf (air line). The village street lines extending in the valley of Chänerechbachs between the heights of Reiteneggwald and Birchliwald, the Swiss Plateau.

The area of ​​2.5 km ² large municipality area includes a portion of the Molassehöhen between the Emmeebene and the Wynigental that were formed by glacial Rhone glacier. Through the area, the valley of the Chänerechbachs (tributary of Ösch ) runs with a 300 m wide flat valley floor of an arc of 90 ° is characterized in Rumendingen. Population

With 83 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Rumendingen one of the smallest municipalities in the canton of Bern. Of the 98.5% of residents speak German, 0.7% French-speaking and 0.7 % speak Spanish ( as of 2000). The population of Rumendingen amounted in 1850 to 146 inhabitants, 1900 also at 146 inhabitants. After peaking in 1950 with 209 inhabitants, a population decline of more than 50 % was recorded by strong emigration.

Economy

Rumendingen is a predominantly coined by farming village today. The agriculture, the cattle farming and pig farming are the major operating branches of the eleven farms. Some other jobs are in the local retail industry and the services available. Southeast of the village, a quarry is being exploited. Many workers are also commuters who work mainly in the region of Burgdorf.

Traffic

The community is located off of the larger passage axes at a connecting road from Niederösch to Wynigen. Rumendingen has no connection to the public transport network. The nearest train station is in Wynigen, 1.5 km from the center.

History

The first documentary mention of the place was already in the year 886 under the name Rumaningun. Later, the names Rumedingen ( 1264 ) published, Rumadingen ( 1342 ) and Rumendingen ( 1380 ). The place name comes from the personal name Romanus back, a name commonly used even when the Alemanni, and thus means for the people of Romanus.

The first of the Kingdom of Upper Burgundy belonging Rumendingen was later owned by the Zähringerplatz and since the 13th century into that of the Counts of Kyburg. Together with Grasswil reached the village in 1395 to the town of Burgdorf. The sovereignty over the area since the beginning of the 15th century was at Berne. The bailiwick of the cheeks and the district court was Koppigen Rumendingen assigned. After the collapse of the Ancien Régime (1798 ), the village belonged to the district during the Helvetic Republic from 1803 to the cheeks and upper office hamlet, was given the status of an office district with the new cantonal constitution of 1831.

Attractions

The hamlet Rumendingen has preserved numerous stately farmhouses and sticks from the 18th and 19th century to today.
