Russell Knipp

Russell Lowell Knipp ( born May 21, 1942 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, † April 9, 2006 in Santa Ana, California ) was an American weightlifter.

Career

Russell L. Knipp grew up in the Pittsburgh district Brookline where he attended South Hills High School. There he also began weightlifting. He started a long time for the Pittsburgh Boys Club. His military service he completed in the 4th U.S. Army at Fort Hood / Texas. In weightlifting he developed into a specialist in the press, to which he was predestined by his stocky physique. He was almost ten years at the world's best and achieved several world records and 34 American records in the Press. He was twice world champion in this discipline.

After his military service he worked as a preacher and lived up to his sudden death from a heart attack during a game of golf at Santa Ana, California. He was an advisory member of the Athletes' Commission of the Olympic Committee of the United States and author of many articles and several books on weight lifting.
