Saint-Blaise (Haute-Savoie)

Saint -Blaise is a commune in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Geography

Saint -Blaise is on 864 m above sea level. M., about 18 km north of the town of Annecy (air line). The village stretches a scenic location on a ridge on the western slope of the Salève, near the Col du Mont Sion, high above the valley of the Usses, in Genevois.

The area of ​​2.55 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the Genevois. The area extends from the Col du Mont Sion south on the plateau of Saint -Blaise and on the wooded, partially covered with bands of rock ridges of Salève. Here it is with 1188 m above sea. M. reached the highest point of Saint -Blaise. The municipal area is drained on the merits by the Ruisseau de la Férande to Usses.

At Saint -Blaise include the hamlet Lachenaz (1000 m above sea level. M. ) on the western slope of the Salève as well as some individual farms. Neighboring municipalities of Saint -Blaise are Présilly in the north, Cruseilles in the east, the south and Copponex Andilly the west.

History

The village is first mentioned in the 10th century. In 1860, Saint -Blaise was assigned to the newly created Canton Cruseilles, previously it was part of the canton of Saint -Julien -en- Genevois.

Sight

The village church of Saint -Blaise dates in its present form from the 19th century.

Population

With 350 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Saint -Blaise is one of the small towns in the Haute-Savoie region. During the 19th and 20th centuries, the population steadily increased due to high levels of emigration from (1861 were still 203 residents counted in Saint -Blaise ). Since the mid- 1980s, however, a significant increase in population was recorded thanks to the attractive residential area again.

Economy and infrastructure

Saint -Blaise is a predominantly coined by farming village today. There are also some plants of the local small business sector. Many working population commuters going about their work in the larger towns in the area as well as in space Annecy and Geneva - Annemasse.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares, but traffic still moderately well developed. The main access is from the street N201 at the Col du Mont Sion. Further road links exist with Cruseilles and Mont Salève. The nearest links to the A40 and A41 motorways is located at a distance of around 10 km.
