Saint-Pierre-en-Faucigny

Saint- Pierre-en -Faucigny is a commune in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Geography

Saint- Pierre-en -Faucigny is located on 471 m above sea level. M., east of La Roche- sur -Foron, about 24 km southeast of the city of Geneva (air line). The village is located at the outlet of the river Borne from the Bornes Alps in the wide valley of the Arvetals, in the Pays Rochois and Faucigny.

The area of ​​14.91 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the lower Arvetals and Bornes Alps. The northern part of the municipal area is occupied by the plain of the Arve. The border is partially the Arve, in part, her left tributary of Borne. From the Arve, the communal land extends southward over the valley and the adjacent slope to the edge of the terrain terrace of Saint- Laurent. A narrow tail extends to the southeast in the Gorges d' Eveaux, a deep gorge in which the Borne breaks through the northern chain of the Bornes Alps. History

The municipal area traces of human presence were found in the Neolithic period. Today's church was built only in 1965 with the merger of the previously independent municipalities of Saint- Pierre -de- Rumilly, Saint- Maurice -de- Rumilly and Passeirier. As a new name Saint- Pierre-en -Faucigny was chosen.

Attractions

The village church of Saint- Pierre was built in the classical style. In Delairaz is the Chapelle d' Eveaux. In the vicinity of Saint- Pierre-en -Faucigny there are several palaces, including the Château de Cohen Dier (originally from the Middle Ages, 12th to 15th century, restored in the 19th century), the Château de Chuet from the 13th century ( rebuilt in the 19th century and enlarged), the Château d' Arcine from the 13th century and the castle in Passeirier.
