Saint-Laurent (Haute-Savoie)

Saint -Laurent is a commune in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Geography

Saint -Laurent is located at 659 m above sea level. M., east of La Roche- sur -Foron, about 25 kilometers southeast of the city of Geneva (air line). The village stretches a scenic location on a terrace at the lower northern slope of Sur Cou ( peaks of the Alps - Bornes ), over the wide Talniederung the Arve, in the Pays Rochois.

The area of ​​10.96 square kilometers municipal area includes a portion of the northern Bornes Alps. The main settlement area is the approximately one kilometer wide terrace of Saint -Laurent ( approximately 200 m above the Arve Valley located ). From here, the municipality's area extends southward along a steep, densely forested slopes down to the limestone peaks of Pointe de la Dent ( 1593 m above sea level. M. ) and Sur Cou ( with 1809 m above sea level. M. the highest elevation of Saint -Laurent ). In the east, the river of Borne, which breaks through the northern chain of the Bornes Alps in the Gorges d' Eveaux, the municipal boundary forms.

Neighboring municipalities of Saint -Laurent are Amancy and Saint-Pierre -en- Faucigny in the north, Le Petit- Bornand -les- Glière and La Roche- sur -Foron in the south and Saint -Sixt in the West.

History

The municipality of Saint -Laurent has been inhabited since the Neolithic period. The parish of Saint -Laurent was founded in 1152.

Attractions

The village church was given its present form in the 19th century. From the medieval castle Cornillon from the 11th century ruins are preserved.

Population

With 811 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Saint -Laurent is one of the small towns in the Haute-Savoie region. In the first half of the 20th century, the population decreased continuously (1901 Saint-Laurent still counted 590 inhabitants). Since the early 1980s, however, a significant population growth was recorded again.

Economy and infrastructure

Saint -Laurent is a predominantly coined by farming village today. There are also some plants of local small businesses and some tourist facilities. Some of the working population commuters going about their work in the larger towns in the area as well as in the Geneva - Annemasse.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares, but can be easily reached from La Roche- sur -Foron and Bonneville. The nearest links to the A40 motorway is located at a distance of about seven kilometers. Saint -Laurent had a station on the railway line Aix -les- Bains- Annemasse.
