Saint-Sixt

Saint -Sixt is a commune in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Geography

Saint -Sixt is on 621 m above sea level. M., southeast of La Roche- sur -Foron, about 22 km southeast of the city of Geneva (air line). The village stretches a scenic location on a terrace at the lower northern slope of Sur Cou ( peaks of the Alps - Bornes ), over the wide Talniederung the Arve, in the Pays Rochois.

The area of ​​5.21 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the northern Bornes Alps. The main settlement area is the 1 km wide terrace of Saint -Sixt ( approximately 200 m above the Arve Valley located ). From here, the municipality's area extends southward over an initially relatively gentle, later getting steeper ascending slope ( Bois des Lanches ) and the projection of Montisel up to the West Ridge of Sur Cou where about 1600 m above sea level. History

The place is named after Pope Sixtus II In the Middle Ages Saint -Sixt was the center of its own little rule.

Attractions

The village church dates originally from the 13th century (part of the choir are preserved ), but was rebuilt and restored several times later. Next to the church stands the castle, which was built in 1349.

Population

With 893 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Saint -Sixt is one of the small towns in the Haute-Savoie region. Since the mid- 1980s, a striking population growth was recorded thanks to the beautiful residential area and close to La Roche- sur -Foron.

Economy and infrastructure

Saint -Sixt is a predominantly coined by farming village today. There are also some plants of local small businesses and some tourist facilities. Many workers are commuters who do their work in the larger towns in the area as well as in the Geneva - Annemasse.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares, but can be easily reached from La Roche- sur -Foron. The nearest links to the A41 motorway is located at a distance of around 5 km.
