Saint-Savournin

Saint- Savournin is a commune with 3240 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Bouches -du -Rhône in the Provence- Alpes- Côte d' Azur.

Geography

The community is located 28 km north-east of Marseille and between Gardanne and Aubagne. Neighboring towns are Cadolive (two miles), Mimet ( three kilometers ) and Gréasque ( four kilometers ). The municipality is part of the Communauté d' Aubagne et de Pays d' agglomà l' Étoile.

History

In the period from the 8th to the 10th century, the village was often attacked and plundered by the Saracens. In the 15th and 16th century, many immigrants came from the Italian region of Piedmont. Especially wine and olives were grown, but also the livestock was significant. In May 1789 complaint books were, before the convening of the General Councils, created in the villages. During the Revolution, there were no bloody conflicts.

The castle

Between 1045 and 1138 a castle on the Chaîne de l' Étoile was built. A tower is still preserved today. The castle was pulled down and the men of the village were moved to a large country house in the plane.

Religion

In the years 768-923, the first church in the village was built. 1659 was the church at the direction of the Archbishop of Aix -en- Provence own graveyard. 1683 the second church was built on the site of the first church in 1865, it was demolished. 1803, the church was formed. The third church was built in 1851 and consecrated in 1853. 1873 were placed in her painting of the martyrdom of Saint Saturninus. 1942, the church was the victim of a flood due to a storm. 1963, the demolition of the church was decided. 1991 began construction of the fourth church.
