Plan-de-Cuques

Plan-de- Cuques is a commune with 10,974 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Bouches -du -Rhône in the Provence- Alpes- Côte d' Azur.

Geography

The municipality is located in the southeast of the departments of Bouches -du -Rhône, four kilometers north of Marseille. It is located in a kilometer distance to the neighboring Allauch. It is part of the Urban Community of Marseille Provence Métropole.

History

The place was formerly a relocation of Allauch and belonged to the municipality. 1830, annexation to Marseille was attempted, but was unsuccessful. 1822 results in the elevation of the chapel of the village to the parish to dispute with the neighboring Allauch. After the construction of the Canal de Marseille, the population increased. The establishment of its own Saint- Eloi festival in the town in the subsequent period is a symbol of the social autonomy of the place. From the 1880s began a new attempt to make the community independently. 1902 entered the city councils of the former hamlet Allaucher again for independence of the community. 1913 starts another attempt is however stopped by the First World War. 1931 organize the largest families of the place a vote on independence. 405 of 754 voters vote for it. The project is rejected by the mayor and city council. The case was forwarded to higher authorities. As the new mayor in 1936 supported the project, we were finally able that the municipality became independent in 1937.

Economy and infrastructure

Plan-de- Cuques is located on the D908, about which one gets to the center of Marseille and is connected on the other side of the A52.
