Salming Trophy

The Salming Trophy ( German Salming Trophy ) is an ice hockey trophy, which is awarded annually to the best Swedish defender outside the National Hockey League. The price has existed since 2008 and the winner will be selected by the Kamratföreningen Hockey journalist Erna, the Swedish Union of Journalists.

The trophy is named after the former Swedish ice hockey player Börje Salming, who was taken in 1996 as the first Swede in the Hockey Hall of Fame and was elected in 2008 in the Centennial All- Star Team of the International Ice Hockey Federation on the occasion of its 100th anniversary.

Award winners

Mikko Luoma 1 was honored in 2008 as a defender of the year the Elitserien. In the same year the Prize was reformed and has since been awarded to the best Swedish defender outside the NHL.
