Samuel Mosberg

Samuel A. Mosberg ( born June 14, 1896 in New York; † August 30, 1967 in Brooklyn ) was an American professional boxer in the weight class lightweight, who celebrated his greatest successes in the early 1920s.

Mosberg began his career in 1912. During the following years he played about 250 amateur fights, in Antwerp until he won the gold medal at the 1920 Summer Olympics. In the final, he defeated the Danes Gotfred Johansen. After his victory, he became a professional boxer, but resigned in 1923 after 57 professional fights back because he could not celebrate the expected success. Mosberg, who was a Jew, took as coach of the U.S. boxing team in 1953 participated in the Maccabiah Games. In 1985, he was inducted into the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame.
