Hocine Soltani

Hocine Soltani (Arabic: حسين سلطاني, DMG Husain Sultani; * December 27, 1972 in Thenia, Algeria, † March 2002 in Marseille, France) was an Algerian boxer.

Amateur career

Soltani won the 1991 Pan-African Games in the featherweight (57 kg). In the same year he was at the amateur world championships in Sydney third behind Kirkor Kirkorov, Bulgaria, and Park Duk -Kyu, South Korea.

In 1992, he took for Algeria at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona and won after beating Jorge Maglione, Argentina (RSC 1 ), Carlos Gerena, Puerto Rico ( 23:0 ), and Victoriano Sosa, Dominican Republic ( 13:4 ), and a semi-final defeat to eventual Olympic champion Andreas Tews, Germany ( 11:1 ), the bronze medal.

In 1993, he boxed in the lightweight (-60 kg), failed at the World Championships in Tampere, however, already in the quarterfinals to eventual bronze medalist Vasile Nistor, Romania ( KO 2 ). In the same year he also finished second place at the Mediterranean Games. In 1994 he was again African champion, but retired at the 1995 World Championships in the Light Welterweight (63.5 kg) in the first fight against Bulat Niazymbetov, Kazakhstan ( 6-2 ) from.

Professional

1998 Soltani was professional. He denied to 2000 only four fights, of which he won.

After his career end Soltani pulled completely back into anonymity and disappeared without a trace in March 2002 in France, his body was found in September 2004 in Marseille. He is now buried in Boudouaou, Algeria.
