Andreas Tews

Andreas Tews ( born September 11, 1968 in Rostock) is a former German amateur boxer.

Tews began in 1979 at the age of 10 years at the club FIKO Rostock with the boxes. Later he joined the SC tractor Schwerin. 1985, 1987 and 1989 he was East German champion, 1991 and 1992 German Masters.

His first international success was the second place in the flyweight class at the Junior European Championships 1986 in Copenhagen. A year later, he won the European Championship of seniors in Turin, at the European Championships in Gothenburg in 1991 he finished third.

Antretend yet for the GDR, he won at the 1988 Olympics after final defeat by Kim Kwang -sun, the silver medal in the flyweight. In 1992 he was for Germany at the Olympic Games in Barcelona Olympic champion at featherweight.

In 1993 he finished at the age of only 24 years, his boxing career at the Schwerin SC. An offer for a professional contract with Universum Box-Promotion he had refused. He is married and has a daughter (* 1994) and a son (* 2005).

For winning the silver medal in Seoul in 1988 he was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in silver.
