San Gavino Monreale

San Gavino Monreale is a Sardinian town in the province of Medio Campidano with about 9200 inhabitants. It lies on the Rio Pardue in the Campidano level between Sanluri and Guspini. North of the village lies the ruins of Monreale, the Terme di Sardara the sacred well of Saint Anastasia and the ancient Nuragic Genna Maria. The town has a railway connection with Cagliari since 1871.

Annually come to San Gavino Monreale Carnival in about 70,000 visitors. The festival in San Gavino is the modern version of the ancient story of the scapegoat, which is led to the altar.

The place is known for the production of saffron. The saffron threads are hand- harvested, brilliant red stigma lobes of the flower of the saffron crocus, with very intense aroma.
