San Ignacio de Moxos Municipality

The municipality of San Ignacio is a district in the department of Beni in the South American Andes State of Bolivia.

Location in near space

The municipality of San Ignacio is the only Municipalities of the province Moxos and is bordered to the northwest by the province Yacuma, on the southwest by the province Ballivián, to the south by the department of Cochabamba, in the southeast of the province Marbán, and in the north east of the province of Cercado.

The largest town and administrative center of the province is the town of San Ignacio de Moxos with 9,064 inhabitants ( 2001) in the northwestern part of the municipality.

Geography

San Ignacio is located in the Moxos level, with more than 100,000 km ², one of the largest wetlands in the world. The dominant vegetation type in the region of San Ignacio is the tropical savannah.

The annual rainfall for the region is 1,900 mm (see climate chart Trinidad ), with a marked dry season in the months of May to September. The monthly average temperatures throughout the year between 24 ° C and 29 ° C.
