San Pedro de Tiquina Municipality

The municipality of San Pedro de Tiquina is a district in the Bolivian department of La Paz The municipality is named after the street of Tiquina, a 800 m wide Seeenge that connects the northern part of Lake Titicaca with the southern part.

The municipality of San Pedro de Tiquina is one of three Municipalities of the province of Manco Kapac and is located in the southeastern part of the province. It is also bordered to the south, east and north of Lake Titicaca, on the south by the Republic of Peru, and on the northeast by the municipality of Tito Yupanqui.

The municipality has 53 localities ( Localidades ), the central location of the municipality is San Pedro de Tiquina with 839 inhabitants in the central part of the municipality, the largest village of San Pablo de Tiquina with 944 inhabitants on the northeast side of the Strait of Tiquina. (2001)

Geography

The municipality of San Pedro de Tiquina located on the Bolivian Altiplano on the Copacabana Peninsula in Lake Titicaca in an average height of 3850 m. The annual average temperature of the municipality lies at 10 ° C, the annual precipitation is about 600 mm. The region has a pronounced diurnal climate, the monthly average temperatures vary only slightly between 8 ° C in July and 11 ° C in December. the monthly rainfall range from less than 10 mm in the months of June and July and about 100 mm from December to February.
